What are Self-Care and Wellness and Why it Matters so much Now?
With so much taking place in the world these days, it cannot be a coincidence that everyone is talking about wellness and self-care. But what is wellness and self-care you ask?. We all have different definitions of what that looks like. For some self-care and wellness are about maintaining beauty rituals, and for others it’s about catching up on much needed sleep.
Self-Care and wellness encompasses spiritual, physical and mental health. For many of us, these past few weeks have been nerve wrecking and some have dealt with the stress by binge eating and watching Netflix, others working from home have found out that working from home is even more demanding than in an office, while others are sleeping more hoping to sleep off the the nightmare of this situation.
However, there are some who are awakening to the fact that self-care and wellness is imperative. This pause in the world has allowed us to do an internal check in with our bodies and mind and be real with what is out of sync. It is important that we adapt daily self-care and wellness routines to support us through trials and tribulations even over excitement. Self-care and wellness is a choice to be healthy in mind, body and spirit.
All of this requires that you go deep inside, inside yourself. Many of us have been running on empty and the consequences have been showing up in different ways. We show up for work, We show up for others, but rarely show up for ourselves. It can’t continue this way, if we are to do the much needed work in the world. Use this time to develop your unique self-care and wellness ritual and see how it will help you to tap into your best and highest self. When you are able to tap into your best and highest self, that positive energy will be a source of strength for others who will need you.
I have my own routine that I have been doing for more than twenty years and have tweaked it consistently over the years. My routine is about an 60 to 90 minutes and if I am on the run 30 minutes. It keeps me grounded and focused. It brings me back to the base camp, the base camp of my-SELF and a connectedness with God, the Divine. My personal self-care and wellness routine guided me through my mother’s death and many other difficulties. Your own personal routine doesn’t have to be perfect, it can involve a number of things from your prayers to your workout but you must have consistency and integrity with your personal routines to get results.
